Directions
From
Galway:
Take the N18 Limerick road. After about 25k you will pass
through the village of Ardrahan. You will shortly see a brown tourist
sign for Thoor Ballylee (Yeats' Tower) to the left. Turn left
onto this road, by Cummins' furniture store. About 1k along this small
road the sign for Thoor Ballylee points right. You can
actually see the tower from here but do not take the right turn. Instead,
take the left which is only a few yards further on, past some farm buildings
on your left. There is a short row of houses on your right and Augill
House is the last one, with a bright red front door.
From
Shannon Airport and Limerick
On leaving Shannon Airport, follow the signs for Ennis
and Galway to join the N18 north.Continue on the Ennis by-pass towards
Galway. Shortly after entering the town of Gort, take the N66 right,
signed Loughrea. After about 4km you will pass a filling station on
your right. Another 500m on you will see a large brown tourist sign
for Thoor Ballylee (Yeats' Tower) to the left. Turn left onto this road
and then take the first right (there is a sign for Augill House here)
and we are the last house on the right hand side with a bright red front
door.
From
Dublin
Take the N6 road for Galway. In Loughrea (after about
three hours driving time), take the N66, left, signed Gort. After about
17k, you will see a large, square brown tourist sign for Thoor Ballylee
(Yeats' Tower) to the right.(Ignore any finger posts taking you off
the N66 before seeing this sign as they often get turned round the wrong
way).Take this right turn and go along the small road for about 500m,
then take the first right onto an even smaller road. You should not
quite have reached the turn for Thoor Ballylee. Pass some farm buildings
on your left and a short row of houses on your right. Augill House is
the last one, with a bright red front door.
Public
transport is available from nearby to Galway City but as
the schedule is not very frequent we would recommend bringing your own
car or hiring one from one of the many reputable Irish companies. However,
for those who prefer to relax at the end of a long journey, we can arrange
transport from Galway or Shannon Airports or from Galway railway and
bus stations. It would then be possible to hire a car locally.
Coming and going, we wish you a safe and pleasant
journey.

and Tricia Handy.
